We are seeking a talented Director Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (Remote) to join our team to help support and facilitate our growth and expansion of services.

Position Summary:

The Director for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery will lead and provide strategic direction for enterprise business continuity and disaster recovery across all OSG business units. This role is responsible for communicating, developing, implementing, maintaining, and managing both the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery programs from an enterprise and business unit focused perspective. The objectives of these programs are to support timely operations and IT recovery following the occurrence of an outage or major disaster that may result in a partial or complete disruption of business and IT operations. This candidate will need to ensure that critical services and capabilities remain operational, appropriate communications to stakeholders are conducted, and financial and reputation loss is minimized.

The Director will plan and coordinate business continuity and disaster recovery strategies that comply with applicable regulations and are directly aligned to our organizational and IT objectives. The Director will lead and build a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery team and partner closely with stakeholders across the organization to ensure practices, policies and plans meet all clients’ requirements. The role will align operations and IT to prevent, plan, and support these programs by utilizing an inclusive, cooperative, and consensus-building process.

Primary Duties

  • Provide leadership and strategy for Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) program Plan, build, run, and manage enterprise-wide BC and DR including strategies, plan development, plan exercising, and manage related IT budgets (capital and operational), annual program agendas, and recovery improvement metrics.
  • Participate in assessments of the impact of potential disruptions in IT services (on premise and hosted), including declaring a disaster and activating the IT DR plan.
  • Manage the execution and completion of all BC and DR test activities and identify recommendations to improve process, plans, and procedures.
  • Maintain close partnership with business unit management, external business partners, and key IT staff for all BC and DR planning, testing, and execution Manage and enforce contracts, along with associated service-level agreements (SLAs), for external IT BC and DR service providers, as required. Assume management responsibility for BC and DR (including data-center-specific and non-data-center-specific IT infrastructure), with a major focus on achieving all financial estimates, ensuring adequacy of end-state production recovery environments, meeting all strategic planning deliverables, and coordinating activities of technology resources with key business units and development groups, as required.
  • Initiate and manage data center recovery capacity planning coordination with key IT technology groups in support of specific business unit initiatives (current, planned and new), focusing on proactively ensuring an adequate recovery network and processing environment, as well as accurate and predictive budgeting.
  • Conduct contingency planning including identifying potential business interruptions, developing safeguards against disruptions, and implementing recovery procedures that includes consideration for cloud delivered applications and services.
  • Develop business recovery plans and procedures.
  • Manage risk through identifying and categorizing outage exposures that could cause a business disruption and understand insurance and vendor agreements to safeguard against a disaster event.
  • Work closely with the Directors of Risk and Information Security to ensure proper cross functional relationships are established.
  • Oversee the execution of BC and DR plans when IT and/or major business operations disruptions occur.
  • Oversee the design, execution and continuous improvement of BC and DR plans through rigorous exercising.
  • Interface with the IT PMO to ensure that new and ongoing projects sustain the level of recoverability consistent with business objectives.
  • Manage the creation of program status communications to internal management (e.g., leadership committees) and external stakeholders (including regulators, auditors and customers) regarding the status of the BC and DR program, including annual reporting, audit report responses and customer requests.
  • Perform all departmental administrative activities, including staff meeting attendance, monthly status reporting, budgeting, strategic planning, staff performance management, expense processing, documentation and other activities, as assigned, in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and manage key performance indicators related to BC and DR to ensure objectives are met. Strive to reduce costs and improve services through new technologies, automation, creative sourcing, and other innovative methods.
  • Keep abreast of latest BC and DR trends, best practices, and technologies.
  • Be a leader with a passion for BC and DR who can build credibility for the team within the organization.
  • Execute select strategic innovation initiatives as directed by the CIO and other leadership. Ensure that all regulatory and auditing guidelines are followed, and solid business practices are implemented.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in both business continuity and disaster recovery
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
  • Solid background in IT environment, operations, and technology
  • BCM certifications preferred
  • Experience with DRaaS

Qualifications

  • Proven skills in leadership of a significant IT organization, with a proven track record in delivering committed results in a complex and diverse academic medical environment
  • Skilled in navigating complex organizational relationships, with a strong track record of driving organizational cultural change.
  • Experience with one or more BCM/Recovery/Storage tools such as: Zerto, Rubrik, Dell RecoverPoint, ServiceNow BCM, Fusion Risk Management, MaestroRS + Solid understanding of engineering and operating resilient modern application/data/infrastructure architectures and knowledge of business continuity, risk, and major incident management frameworks (aligned to ISO and NIST standards and guidelines)
  • Politically astute; understands dynamics of relationships and will remain balanced and objective. Effective and highly credible working relations with individuals at all levels of the organization, from entry-level to the medical staff and board members.
  • A tenacious drive for results, utilizing sound project management, organizational, information systems and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions
